HOTWORK project鈥檚 main objective is the development of new nanostructures PVD coatings that result in a significant improvement on the protection of gravity casting dies and aluminium injection moulds.



Background and characteristics:

Most of aluminium pieces manufacturing technologies are processes that require the melting or the heating of the aluminium up to temperatures in the range of the 400 鈥 700 潞C. This fact entails tools and dies to work in very severe conditions.

In these processes, dies are an essential part in the manufacturing processes design. For that reason, it is very important to make a continuous effort of reengineering of their surfaces that allow them to work in more extreme conditions.


The objective of this project is the development of new surface treatments based on nanostructures thin films for increasing the productivity of the following processes:

- Gravity casting of Copper-Nickel/Aluminium alloys.

- Aluminium injection moulding.

Through advanced solutions of Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD) and Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) coatings.
